July 4Th...Race day at 7am...not to early as I have now trained my body to semi wake up at that hour. I awoke in time to do my pre-run...hot bath etc..and arrived at the race course 45min before 7. I warmed up doing 2 laps of a little mile loop and felt like I was ready. The weather was perfect, a little overcast as this race can be very hot and humid. I believe this years conditions were awesome.
With over one-thousand people running this 5K..I positioned myself up front about 3 rows back from the front...after the first turn felt very comfortable and boxed in. Which was good because it kept me slow on the hill. I reached the first mile split in 5:32 feeling great so I knew I was on. Mile 2 in 11:18. I wanted anything below a 11:30 so was again well pleased. I knew mile 3 would be tough and it was. I got a little off focus in this mile and reached mile 3 in 17:12..I needed a 17 flat. Crossed the line in 17:58...my goal was 17:30. With very little running race experience in 7 years I felt that the time was well worth all the training I put in for it. I have many people to thank and I will do so next blog.
