STAGE RACE= DNF'd

I love this race. I would encourage everyone to go run it at some point.

This year I was going for a sub 9 hour total. Not an easy thing to do but obtainable.
All my training had gone well and all I had to do is go out there and perform.
DAY ONE: I raced ok. I really wanted a 2:20 or less.I came into Aid station 1 on time and Aid station 2 (mile 8 at 56) but slowed some between there and the finish. Came in 21st with a 2:28 Take away the day racers and I was sitting in a good spot.
DAY TWO: Felt great on the first loop of 5 miles. But coming into the aid station, I guess I got a little unfocused and "bam" went down on a root. Rolling my ankle. See photo below.

This put me out of the race. I was bummed for about a minute. I've raced enough to know there is always a race and that I live a lifestyle of fitness. So after a little ice and rest I went on a tree obstacle course the next day..really cool too.
With enough tape I managed not to tweak the ankle and came away with a great experience. (photo below of me on tree course)

This week I'll recover plus look over my training as my next big race is Stump Jump in October. Thanks for all the support I always recieve day in day out as
I try to push the human body as far as one can.

hey A,
yea..I rolled it good..have been thinking back on why it happened..
ran in "tank" trail shoes with higher heel, my core is still a little off..etc etc..but the fact is I rolled it so there..I just have to deal..
Icing and coffee sound great!!!!

Injuries are a real drag but they are just as much a part of training and racing as anything else.
sorry to hear about the DNF. It's tough on the ego and confidence.
But this aint your 1st rodeo and you know what to do.
Hope all is well man!

Decided to check your blog and saw that you had an awful fall. That stinks! Usually, slower people, like myself, think that pro's don't get hurt. At least, it's not advertised by many. After I ran the R2R2R, I found out that I'd run across it with a grade 3 ankle sprain. Torn ligament... Sounds like you know how to take care of it. GOOD LUCK! Hara Hackett (Stephen's former client)
