This year I brought great fitness to this race. However, I believe I left my race mojo in California at the BullDog 50k just one month prior. My goal was to go 5hr to 5:15hr on this rocky and technical course. However, that didn't happen as you will be able to compare last years and this year split times.
So I intended to be a little more aggressive this year ( faster) , wear a different trail shoe (lighter) and set a personal PR for myself.(better than 5:27)
The first 10 miles to Indian Rock house, I paced off Randy Whorton, who knows this race well. He ran a 5:15 last year. However, I passed him and was up 3-5 minutes until mile 18. I was hurting (feet wise) and had to be very careful on the trail, slowing me down a lot. From mile 20-31 I was passed by at least 12-14 people as I dragged myself to the finish line in a disappointing 5:39. Randy ended up with a 5:24 , as I dropped from top 15 to 38 or so place.
2009 split time verses 2010 split time
suck creek-( 1:01) ( 57 min) mile 5.5
Indian rock- (1:47 ) (1:40) mile 10
Indian rock #2-(3:30) (3:15) mile 20
suck creek #2-(4:30) ( 4:15) mile 26
Finish-( 5:27) ( 5:39) mile 31
As you can see in 2009 it took me less than 1 hr to cover the last part of the race (5 miles), this year
1 hr and 19 min. So there was my race, the last 5 miles, to exhausted to go any faster (probably fuel) and my feet too beat up that I didn't want to run another step!! Not to mention how I felt mentally as I knew the PR wasn't going to happen. These things happen in endurance races, you learn and move forward. Already planning next years race.

Well Said Johnny. Endurance racing is truly becoming more and more contagious and me myself I can not wrap my mind around the distance. Good race!
