Rachel and me before the start!
I was so not looking forward to this race (Nashville Ultra 50k) this past Saturday. The weather was supposed to be crap, I had just finished racing two weeks ago at Stump Jump and personally I was just not feeling it. However, it all came together. The main reason is because I have some amazing people surrounding me. How this all came together, I really don't know but I'm blessed I guess. First, I had a crew person. So thanks "E" for being fired up, having great energy and taking time out of your college homecoming weekend and helping me. You gave me the drive..or maybe just held me accountable..many thanks! To Tonya, always you been a trooper and a true friend..I've always stated passion and one's true heart over comes anything else and you prove that over and over to me..thanks for running the first 10 miles with me...I know I can usually count on you when it comes time to lace up the running shoes. No matter the weather, how we feel etc... it's nice to be around that. Also to Chris! Running with me from mile 12 to 24. You made it enjoyable and easy. Sorry you had to hear some of my rants!.:)
Basically, everything just fell into place. All these people came together. Said they would help in some way or the other and it gave me the necessary motivation to drag my butt out on a day where I wasn't into it. Seriously, when I'm down, I am not like my friend Greg Dunn who can go take their frustrations out in their training or racing. I tend to do me best when I'm happy. Although some of my best races come out of a place when I'm at my worst emotionally. So maybe it's that I just like racing when I'm happy.
Anyway, This race was the first one this year that I broke 5 hrs. All the while setting my personal best at this distance. Couldn't get enough of yesterday!!!
Oh, my previous best time was 4:46. Saturday I did a 4:26..good enough for JPRO and 2nd place.
